Hotel de France, located opposite Saintes train station, offers air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms, satellite TV, and free WiFi. A daily breakfast buffet and drinks are served. The hotel features a secured 12m-long garage and is next to a car rental agency. Rooms are serviced by a lift, and the town centre is a 15-minute walk away.

The staff were available and welcoming. The room had space, was clean, and the neighborhood was quiet. The smoke detector on the ceiling flashed during the night.

The proximity to the train station is great. The room lacks soundproofing.

The reception was pleasant and you could arrive at night; the elevator worked, and the croissant was crispy, but there was no option for an egg at breakfast. For train travellers it’s directly opposite the station, with free parking there; otherwise the hotel charges 11€ per day. The shower was tiny… but that can’t be changed! A very large person would not be able to move or fit inside.
