The building is great, just a 10‑minute walk from Kyoto Station. Lots of metro and bus stops nearby, plus supermarkets and malls. They let you make coffee and tea, and they were really good. My room didn’t have a private WC or shower; the only shower area was on the first floor with the reception and lounge. So I had to go down from the 3rd floor to the 1st by elevator, then use that open space with no privacy, no individual changing cubbies, and the shower walls were transparent.

旅馆离京都站很近,周边设施齐全,便利店稍远一点。房间空间不大,厕所和洗浴需要共用。大浴场泡澡很舒服

The staff were friendly and polite. The photos were misleading: the mattress on the bed was actually a makeshift sofa that your old aunt Jeanne would pull out when you were 7 and came to sleep. That sofa collapses to 1 cm under your fingers. It’s topped with a thin sheet that’s collected enough hair and fur to knit a hat. After turning in bed for an hour, I ended up folding the mattress in half to sleep. Obviously it wasn’t flat, and I spent the night on a kind of uncomfortable couch. I slept only two hours that night. The insulation was awful; it was better insulated at my university. You could hear a neighbor snore, and any movement against the wall was audible. The solid wood stools had no felt. The price‑quality ratio was bad: you pay for a concept, not comfort. If I’d paid €25, I wouldn’t have complained, but €45 is only €10 less than a standard hotel in Japan, even in Kyoto. At that rate, you expect a decent bed. The night before, I stayed in a 4‑star in central Nara for €38 a night. The night before that, a very comfortable 3‑star in Kyoto for €60 a night, 15 min walk. After staying in dozens of hotels in Japan, this was the worst experience I’ve had.
