“No sleep because of the door slams”
The apartment had some nice features: a jacuzzi bath was enjoyable, the TV was great, and having Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ was a nice touch. The AC was useful, though it’s a standing unit and noisy. The owner/manager Micky tried to address our concerns and left small treats. The main problem was the external communal door, which naturally slammed loudly unless someone actively controlled it. The room was on the ground floor while the other rooms were in the basement, so the impact of the door closing was especially noticeable in the room. When it closed by itself it could slam hard enough to shake the bed and wake us. We spoke to a guest who kept letting the door slam despite our request. We first messaged Micky but got no reply, so we called him the next day. He said it was only one guest causing the problem, but later the same day other guests continued to let the door slam. We politely spoke to several guests ourselves and the situation improved, especially at night, though there were still loud incidents during the day and sometimes at night. We complained to Micky and were unhappy with his response that the door noise was “subjective.” He didn’t offer a refund for the remaining nights so we could find other accommodation, even though we were willing to pay more elsewhere just to sleep. He eventually gave us a mild compensation. The Wi‑Fi was poor and sometimes unusable. There was no shower, which was unusual. The AC unit required a hole through the wall for its pipe, and cigarette/weed smells could enter through this opening as well as street noise. The AC itself was loud, but we had to keep it on all the time to avoid the smells, the door noise and external noise as much as possible. The surrounding area had Asian women who appeared to be around their 50s standing along the streets during both day and night, apparently offering adult services.
