The location is good and the room is spacious and clean, but the price is quite high and my expectations for the hotel were high, so I was very disappointed. The food, both dinner and breakfast, failed to deliver the delicacy, depth, and specialness that such a price point should offer, even though it used Kyoto ingredients and seasonal elements. It seems the menu is geared mainly toward overseas guests, so making it clear that it feels Japanese or Kyoto-like is important. However, the meals only surface‑levelly portrayed “Kyoto-ness” or “Japanese-ness.” If the food and experience were commensurate, I would have paid the high price, but what was offered fell far short of what the hotel’s stature and price promised, leaving me disappointed. I had a special occasion here, so this impression is especially regrettable. I hope the hotel will reconsider how to truly make Japanese guests feel they “should have eaten here” in the future.
