Nothing. The staff was very aggressive and only wanted our money! They insulted us and threatened to contact immigration to make us pay additional fees that were not originally planned. I’ve never seen anything like that. They intimidated us regarding our visas so much that we waited until we left the country to file this review!

Warm and friendly welcome.

It was gorgeous and comfortable, and the people—a large, lovely, super‑friendly family—were amazing. I had to wait three days before I could go to Kelimutu, but Jenny, who speaks good English, made sure I never felt bored with her warm heart, taking me to spots that tourists rarely see, and she sells the best sarongs in all of Flores. I’m a difficult sleeper and the accommodation is on a road that gets heavy traffic in the morning; there’s nothing they can do about it, but it’s useful to know.

The spot is great for Kelimutu, and the landlady is very sweet. On nice days you can enjoy a balcony overlooking the whole village, and a very atmospheric bar/restaurant about five minutes away offers excellent live music. We were invited to a local holy communion, which was a wild intro to the local culture, and the community feels very welcoming. It’s a bit basic, but the price matches that; the friendliness of the landlady and locals more than made up for it.

The value for money is exceptional. We used the last room on the floor, which gave us space and intimacy on our large gallery. The room and equipment were brand new and clean, and the breakfast was generous (included), with pancakes and fruit. Kudos to the owners for clearly understanding what passing tourists need.
