The interior, bed, and design are pretty good. The air shower is tiny, almost invisible, making showering stressful. The private pool has no hot water, so with the 11 °C weather it’s even more stressful to soak in cold water, rendering the pool useless. There are wind holes above the door that line up, letting cold air in and making us sick; luckily the staff gave us extra blankets. A cooler place shouldn’t have so many wind holes. The road to the location isn’t far from the paved road, but the ground is too soft, like flour, causing my car’s tires to sink, damaging the clutch and producing a smoky smell. Thankfully staff and locals helped. The road should be more solid and sturdy for vehicle safety. There is no self‑managed kitchen; we only stayed one night.

The property itself is fantastic, perched above the skyline with views of any building. It’s well equipped, comfortable, and spacious—probably the only place in Bali with a soft mattress, which, as a UK native, was absolutely sublime! To reach it, you’re told to meet at an alternate Google Maps pinpoint and then driven up by a 4x4 jeep because the track is very steep and rough, enough to make most taxi drivers wince. As someone who’s trepidatious at best, I was a bit confused, but trust me it’s all completely safe! The villa offers beautiful vistas from your private terrace, picture window, or jacuzzi, so wherever you lounge you always have something to look at. We booked at very short notice for two nights as a romantic getaway for my partner and me, and the staff were more than accommodating, always ready to help with baggage, travel arrangements, or logistics of getting around—happy to take us up and down the track in and out of the villa, zero stress. We also booked a tour guide service with the owner’s uncle, Nyoman, who was wonderfully friendly and polite and took us up Mount Batur on Christmas Eve to watch the sunrise, not at all pushy or overbearing, just a pleasant part of the experience. The team at Jungle Sunrise made our trip to Bali even more wonderful and unforgettable—thank you ❤️ The jacuzzi is currently being converted to use natural geothermal heat instead of what I assume would be a diesel or natural gas boiler, and it would have been nice to know that ahead of time, but I can’t mark anything down for this as the place was so wonderful, and having a cold plunge after a long day was also lovely!

We aimed to climb Batur and you’re literally at the foot of the mountain at sunrise! The team is fantastic, especially guide Yoman, who is the uncle of our host ❤️—he took us to the summit with joy and good vibes. Arriving the day before, our hosts showed us the area and some quality hot springs. The only downside is the flies that are everywhere in the region during this season; it’s the same everywhere, nothing we can do about it 😉
