“wunderbares Stadthotel”
I spent three nights at the Peninsula Hotel in Phnom Penh. Because it was my first trip to Cambodia, I can highly recommend it from a first‑time visitor’s perspective. The location is superb: the hotel sits on a small island just outside the city centre, and a tuk‑tuk or taxi gets you into the centre in about five to ten minutes. At the same time, the hotel is pleasantly away from the bustle, giving a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. My room was spacious, modern, very clean and comfortable. The air‑conditioning worked perfectly, and there was even a small kitchenette. The highlight, however, was the fantastic view over the water and Phnom Penh’s skyline, which left a striking first impression upon arrival. Another highlight is the infinity pool on the roof, which offers plenty of space to swim and a spectacular panoramic view of the city. After a day of sightseeing, it’s a wonderful place to unwind. The surrounding infrastructure is convenient: a 24‑hour supermarket is a few minutes’ walk away, and several snack stalls sit directly opposite. Breakfast is served in an in‑house café. During my stay, the first two days were quieter, so they served à la carte; the selection was excellent, with fresh dishes like Eggs Benedict and freshly squeezed orange juice. On the third morning, due to higher guest numbers, there was a small buffet that was also impressive. I especially want to highlight the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff; you feel welcomed and well taken care of from the moment you arrive. It isn’t a classic five‑star luxury hotel, but in my view it comfortably reaches about four‑and‑a‑half stars.
