“We had an amazing stay!”
We were thrilled by the breakfast and dinner, the beds felt cozy, the staff were fantastic, the resident cows and calves were cute, the hikes were great, and the location was extraordinary. We decided to hike up from the train station at Obertraun Dachstein, and the staff suggested downloading the Mapy app, which really helped with navigation. We had to adjust to gender‑neutral shared showers in addition to the dorm room, but everyone was respectful and we felt at ease.
With all due respect, this property cancelled my stay 30 min before I arrived. It was 8 pm and I had nowhere to sleep. Keep that in mind: you can be left without a place after requesting a hiking day.
The old hotel and mountain cabin are in a beautiful spot, and the staff—a Nepali family—are helpful and friendly. My room was clean, and the buffet dinner with Nepali dishes and pastries was excellent. The breakfast, however, was weaker than the dinner, though it still filled me up.

I had a fantastic stay at Gjaid Alm, coming for a few days of hiking in the area, and the team was sweet and attentive! It wasn’t originally meant as a lodging spot, more of a stopover, but the family running it adapted perfectly to the travelers’ needs. Thanks to them for their professionalism and friendliness; the place is gorgeous, surrounded by cows, starry nights, and breathtaking paths. Perhaps clearer information about extra fees from the start would help budget planning.
