Hotel Taiko, Myoko, is a 7-minute walk from Akakura Ski Resort. The hotel features indoor and outdoor hot spring baths, massages, and a sauna. Japanese-style rooms offer mountain views and free Wi-Fi. Air-conditioned rooms have tatami flooring, en-suite bathrooms, and flat-screen TVs. A Kaiseki-style dinner and Western/Japanese breakfast buffet are served. Ski equipment rentals and lift tickets are available on site.

The Japanese room was spacious and cozy, the view was stunning, the onsen was excellent, and breakfast was deliciously varied; the lifts were close, but the path to the hotel can be slippery in winter.

Breakfast offered a wide selection and the staff were welcoming; the building feels a bit old and could use better upkeep, yet it remains clean.

Everything you could need is here—rental and coach services, bars, onsen, a washing machine, table tennis, and games, plus an outdoor onsen; the staff were friendly and they gave us waterproof boots when the floor flooded from melted ice, and there were plenty of food trucks nearby, though I didn’t try them. The location is fine, though you still have to walk a bit to reach the ski lift. The place looks very dated, there was a strong “Chinese oil” odor when we first entered, the bath and onsen were old with visible black stains on the floors, and the washing machine basins were dirty.

I loved the onsen and the lively nighttime vibe in the lobby; the breakfast buffet was great, the resort is just a 5‑7 minute walk away, and the kids’ facilities—games room and playroom—were fantastic; no complaints.
