The cruise was beautiful, the staff lovely and the food amazing. The staff were great, yet they knocked on the door 3–4 times a day with menus or to check if we were ready, which was a bit intrusive. The day started at 6 am every morning, so missing that meant missing breakfast.

The rooms were nice, staff attentive and meals good. The itinerary focused too much on crowded spots; the day meant for a calm swim was ruined by anchoring in an area with a strong current. They could have gone further inland but chose not to, according to someone working on the ship. The pearl farm felt like a sales pitch, with long waits to board and disembark, and even longer waits for the shuttle back to Hanoi. There was never enough time at any stop to relax and enjoy the location and activities.

Absolutely fantastic. The staff went above and beyond and were so friendly! We had kids and they catered dinner to their preferences, which was unexpected and greatly appreciated. The itinerary ran very efficiently. Highly recommend this tour. No negatives—absolutely fantastic.

The crew was super friendly, helpful, and kept checking on us regularly. The evening show was great, and the cocktails on the upper deck tasted good. Excursions and activities were included—cave tour, beach stay, kayaking, etc. Watching the sunset from the upper deck was amazing. On the downside, you have to know that this kind of cruise is a mass event with many other cruise lines, so the activities get really crowded. Athena can’t control that, but it’s worth knowing. I’d still sail with Athena again, just not the Ha Long Bay cruise; one night is enough.

The staff were very courteous and friendly. They arranged a birthday celebration. The cabin was spacious, the beds and pillows were super comfortable. The food was tasty and the selection was large. A small flag on the table pleasantly surprised us. The schedule was busy all day. The ship drifts about an hour into a bend and throws a line. I wanted a longer cruise. At night the ship also doesn’t drift anywhere. Honestly, it should be called a stay on a ship, not a cruise. Drinks aren’t included in the price.
