Living like the locals in that area was a good opportunity; it’s basic but clean and has most of the essentials. Some activity prices should be clearer, maybe put in a table next to the drinks menu in the dining room.

The homestay with the islanders was very basic but decent; there were no mosquito nets, so bring your own. The family cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner from what they grow, so bring groceries if you need specific items. No restaurants, pharmacies or ATMs nearby. It’s a great spot if you want to live with the Tanna village people for a few days, and the family was very friendly!

The accommodation is excellent and close to Mt. Yasur. Our host Charlie arranged all the excursions around the volcano, hot springs, a local tribe, the beach and the Blue Cave. Sam picked us up from the airport and guided us on the trips, mastering the roads superbly. Through him and by staying with Charlie’s family we learned a lot about the island and its people. We had a lot of fun chatting with everyone and got a small glimpse into island life, being fully included in their daily routine. Under Charlie’s wife’s guidance and with the kids’ help, we cooked Laplap – very tasty! The kids took us to the beach. It was a fantastic stay right in nature, with all the natural surroundings. The meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner – were local, good and more than enough. Charlie kindly organized the flight from Efate to Tanna because we had trouble reaching Air Vanuatu from Germany. Thanks to Charlie, Sam and everyone in the village!
