The location was good, but the room I was assigned was old, the door didn’t latch properly, the beds and mattress were past their prime, and the bathroom felt very dated and functionally subpar. The TV was oddly placed, and while the breakfast spread was generous, it took place in a separate room and the transition from the breakfast table to the buffet looked untidy.

As a big fan of Van der Valk hotels, I had certain expectations, and I have to say there’s a difference between the Dutch and Belgian branches, yet they haven’t fallen short of certain expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, lunch was also fine, and the beds were wonderful. The room was spacious enough to store all my stuff, and I had a large balcony where I could enjoy fresh air. The toilet wasn’t completely clean; I spotted a urine stain and didn’t want to sit on it. Since I had the last available room, I knew I couldn’t get another one and decided to hang over the toilet when I needed to go. Also, the shower couldn’t close properly, which made the floor wet, and that was unpleasant.

The room was nice and the bed was good, but the door had a problem and got stuck, the shower alternated between hot and cold, the room was cold, and the meals were far too expensive.

The hotel had been very good for business over the years, but the restaurant prices including breakfast are far too high.
