“A beautiful place, bt only if you are prepared for the basic conditions and extra costs.”
Read this before booking to avoid mistakes and make your stay at Ras Mohamed campsite more comfortable. Below I’ll explain the extra costs beyond the accommodation price, which can be significant for some. 1. Ras Mohamed is a national reserve and an Egyptian military area, so entry and exit are strictly limited to 9:00 AM–5:00 PM daily; from 5:00 PM to 9:00 AM you cannot enter or leave. Because of this, I had to stay in a hotel the first and last nights since my flights were in the evening and at night. Check the exact opening hours of Ras Mohamed before booking, as they may vary by season. 2. A taxi to the campsite is much pricier than a regular taxi; budget about $35–45 one way, so $70–90 total. In my case, a driver accepted the ride through the inDrive app, but when he saw the route he refused to take me for the $7 shown in the app. I ended up spending a lot of time searching for a taxi and couldn’t find anything cheaper than $35. You’ll also need to pay $5 for your taxi to enter Ras Mohamed. 3. Additionally, you must pay $10 per day for staying inside Ras Mohamed; this fee isn’t included in the accommodation price and is paid separately at the entrance. 4. Bring two power banks; there’s no electricity on the campsite. In the morning you can hand them over, and they’ll return them fully charged in the evening. 5. Bring towels, bed linen, and personal hygiene products. “All inclusive” here means breakfast, lunch, dinner, a tent with a mattress, pillow, blanket, and drinking water. 6. There will be no problem.
