We had a fantastic stay at Pongyis. The hostel has a very special history that is presented in a lovely way. The location is perfect, close to the train station and everything in town is within walking distance. Nina impressed us as the host with her warm personality, giving us a great insight into Japanese culture! I absolutely recommend this place!

I often travel and stay at Guesthouses, but it’s been a long time since I met a host as friendly and considerate as Nina. When I checked in, she briefly explained the house’s history and each day told me about the other guests, which made me feel secure and also gave us a chance to connect. Every night she organized small social events in the first‑floor common area; I only attended once during my several nights, but it was a pleasant experience. Listening to foreigners share their impressions of Japanese culture was fascinating. If you want to rest alone at night, the host won’t disturb you, though I’d recommend a quick chat with everyone when you get a chance. By the way, Nina runs the entire place alone, keeps it spotless every day, and it’s truly impressive.

Nina and Masaki are lovely hosts and the house itself is charming. They actively encourage guests to mingle through evening activities and discussions. The space feels a bit cramped, but its character wins out and the guests are quiet and considerate, so I slept well in the tight dorm room. Nothing else stood out; this was my second visit and I’d happily return.

The house is incredible and peaceful. Nina, the owner, is amazing, kind, and thoughtful. The origami, Japanese name writing, and takoyaki making were so special that I looked forward to them each night. Thank you so much!!!
