A calm and relaxing place. The staff are attentive and always smile. Thanks to Jacqueline and her team; a Berber village worth discovering.

The views were gorgeous, the space relaxed, and the garden stunning. The food was plentiful and delicious. Getting in touch with the hiking guides was a breeze, and the staff handled our changing plans smoothly, even stashing our luggage for free while we trekked. The beds, however, were far too heavy—heavy duvet, thick blankets, a top blanket, sheepskin, and pillows—making the rooms unbearably hot during the heatwave, especially since they’re small for three people plus luggage. We only needed a sheet and a thin blanket; without fans, sleep was difficult. Adjusting the bedding to the season would cut unnecessary washing. Mohammed was friendly and enthusiastic about our hikes, but he seemed impatient during meals, which mattered little to me with young kids who needed early bedtimes. He was also blunt about tips, which would have encouraged me to tip more generously if he’d been more subtle. Still, he was genuinely proud when the kids completed their five days of hiking. None of these issues deterred me from returning; Douar Samra remains my go‑to base for trekking, and the communal dining introduced me to many fellow travelers, a big plus for a single parent.
