The place was clean, set in a very quiet, natural setting, and the bedding was comfortable. The furniture was quite minimal. To get to Amsterdam you’d walk 15 minutes, then take a 35‑minute bus; the connections were fairly frequent. There were no shops or restaurants within walking distance.

The staff were friendly, it was close to Amsterdam and the sea, and the view over the lake was nice. The house felt a bit dated and the equipment was very basic – no TV, no toaster, no hair dryer, and only a few dishes and cutlery. The sink was clogged, the toilet flush ran, and there were silverfish in the bathroom. For the price we expected more, and the airport noise was noticeable.

The location was nice and the house was tidy. There was no TV, no microwave, and no oven, which I found surprisingly basic. On a bad day we’d have liked a TV. The worst part was that in the middle of the night it started raining inside the bedroom and bathroom. We called the emergency number and a friendly lady on the phone could only offer extra towels. We had to put two large pots under the dripping, and the sound of the drops at night was definitely unpleasant. She said she would pass the issue on to her colleagues during the day, but we saw or heard nothing. That was very disappointing.
