The pool in the afternoons comes with very comfortable hammocks. The only downside is that there’s a shower but no bathtub.

Being surrounded by nature is a highlight. However, getting there is a bit tough because the small road has spots damaged by forestry work, something our host regretted.

The place is clean, quiet, off the beaten path, with extensive gardens. The bedroom was nice and we brought our dog. The other larger apartments were empty. The owner presented everything beautifully. The space feels small for the price—there’s a nice bedroom, a kitchen, a sitting area, but overall it seemed like poor value and expensive.

Before booking Casa Rural Penaquente you have to locate it on Google Maps and realize you’re not in a town but surrounded by nature, and the road isn’t well paved, yet the setting is heavenly with beautiful views. We kept that in mind, so the location wasn’t an issue; we loved the solitude. (I mention this because I read comments from people who seemed not to have taken this time before booking.) We booked the rural house specifically for the silence we wanted to appreciate the total eclipse, which was amazing from the accommodation. We didn’t book an apartment but a double room, and given how far we are from the nearest supermarket or restaurant, it would have been great if guests had a microwave or small stove to heat food. Casa Rural provides a fridge for drinks and cold food, but a microwave or stove would have made us even happier. Breakfast was good, the bread and yogurt were excellent, but I wish it had been a bit more creative; I missed a bit of tomato, olive oil, or a boiled egg. With so much calm and tranquility we slept very well, better than at home, which is the point of a good vacation. Overall everything was very good, but I think there’s room for improvement. Keep in mind that Casa Rural has no Wi‑Fi; the idea is to disconnect, even detox from the outside world. Pistacho is a love, it’s the king of Casa Rural Penaquente. We wish Irene and the establishment much success!

Everything was spotless, the breakfast was high‑quality and plentiful, and the host’s kindness and attention were perfect; we truly felt at home.
