The staff were helpful, the room was a good size, clean, and comfortable. Only one towel was provided for two people.

The beds were comfortable, it was cheap, and the location was good for transport links around the area. Apologies, this is a long one. The hotel is no longer called the Queens Guest House – it's the Hylands Hotel – so we had a difficult time finding it because we thought we had the address wrong. We received no check‑in instructions, so I rang the number listed on the hotel's page – the man who answered explained that he no longer worked there and had asked repeatedly for the number to be changed! When we eventually got let in, the hotel staff seemed confused and took quite a while to get us into a room – it was as though they weren't expecting us. The room itself was a little grubby – cobwebs in the corners, dead insects in the bathtub, etc. There was no wardrobe (despite the listing stating there would be) and no mirror other than a small bathroom one. We also had to walk through the kitchen/laundry room where the staff hung out to access our room at night, which we thought was a little odd. The absolute highlight of our stay here, though, was my friend burning her hand on a broken electrical socket in our room! She was unplugging the provided space heater when there was a huge bang and her poor hand got burnt (and covered in soot). It was only then that we noticed the (decrepit) space heater hadn't been PAT tested since 2021! Our room was left with no electricity other than the lights, and when we told the staff, we were not offered any kind of compensation or to be moved to a new room. Simply a 'sorry, we'll send someone to look at the plug socket tomorrow' – by which point our stay would have already been over. Don't stay at this hotel.

Queens Guest House does not exist; the property is part of the Hylands Hotel next door. There is no signage to indicate this, but there are several key safes on the outside wall. The owner of the hotel next door came out, spoke to me, and then showed me into the Hylands. This was slightly confusing because we were booked in for the Queen's Guest House. The room was clean and comfortable and we had no complaints about our stay. It was just confusing on arrival. The booking could have been clearer about where we were staying, as it was confusing to arrive and find the place did not exist.

The only positive about this Guest House is the location. This Guest House wasn't fit for purpose. It was dirty, not cleaned to a standard that you would expect. Yes, they do provide a kettle, sachets of coffee, no cups, no spoons, no sachets of milk. The codes that the place provided didn't work, as it's not clear on the room allocation which of the outside key holders were for which rooms. But more worrying, it did open with a key for a completely different room. Hardly safe if you intended leaving your key in the outside key holder if you were going out. This is disturbing! Bedding was poor, pillows terrible quality and only one per person. One toilet roll was left for a three‑night stay for two people. The carpet was so dirty that a boil wash didn't take the dirt out of our socks, so sadly in the bin! No instructions were given on where to leave the key when you checked out, and we didn't see any staff during our stay. Finally, not easy to spot when driving because there is no Queens Guest House name on the building.
