We always check a hotel room before moving in, and as soon as we walked in we smelled a strong, unpleasant odor that felt like a heavily masked pet smell mixed with cleaning chemicals—overwhelming. We told the front desk right away, but there were no other rooms available, so we stayed in that one. We’d researched hotels nearby and knew this was the best price we could find, so we decided to make the best of it. I have to credit the gentleman at the front desk: he was extremely polite, understanding, and even offered us a refund because of the room’s condition, which we appreciated. No breakfast was offered, and the smell in room 113 was a major issue.
