Choyo Resort Hotel, in Sounkyo Onsen hot-spring area, features modern Japanese decor and relaxing hot-spring baths. Air-conditioned rooms have flat-screen TVs, refrigerators, and electric kettles. On-site amenities include duty-free shops, sauna, hot springs bath, two restaurants with buffets, and vending machines. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Daisetsuzan Sounkyo Ropeway and 20 minutes from Ryusei-no-Taki Falls, 25 minutes from JR Kamikawa Train Station.

The hotel sits right across from a 7‑11, and both dinner and breakfast were buffet style with polite foreign staff, but meal times were fixed, Japanese staff struggled to communicate in English, and the hot‑spring street was a bit far.

The location was fine, yet the room had spider webs, the buffet was disappointing, and the tempura was the worst.

The spot was lovely near the Twin Waterfalls and Ropeway with plenty of autumn colors, but we stayed in room 5021 where the air‑conditioning failed completely, leaving us sweltering at night, the beds were uncomfortable, and the onsen didn’t allow swimsuits, which made it hard for shy people like me to enjoy.
