It has been the best place I have been so far in Japan. The facilities are quite old but well kept, the onsen is beautiful, the breakfast was great. But most of all, the staff is exceptional. They are probably the kindest and nicest people I’ve ever met. I was cycling through Japan and arrived late and in the middle of a storm, they were looking for me and made everything smooth and comfortable. They even dried my shoes and helmet without asking and they drove me to the nearest konbini to grab some dinner. Truly amazing. I would not hesitate to come back for a longer period.

My friend and I had a wonderful stay at Tonomine Kanko Hotel. All of the staff were very nice, friendly, and welcoming. We asked the hotel to provide transportation to and from Sakurai Station, which was very helpful and convenient. The room was spacious and very authentic, and the view from the large windows was fantastic! We enjoyed the delicious food and the large onsen (public bath) that evening and again the following morning. Tanzan Shrine was literally right in front of the hotel, and we visited it early the next morning. My friend and I are college classmates, and we had traveled to Nara several times together back then. Being able to visit Tanzan Shrine together again after half a century was a very memorable and wonderful experience. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again

I loved how traditional the place felt – the staff were lovely and made us feel at home, and it was authentically Japanese. Waking up to the forest sounds at the doorstep was very peaceful. The only downside was that the property was a bit hard to locate in the dark.

A wonderful hidden gem in Nara, close enough to Osaka for a taxi; I recommend staying at least one night to explore the nearby temple grounds, soak in the onsen, and enjoy the magnificent food made with local ingredients. They treated me exceptionally well, even by Japanese standards. Nothing else to say.
