The value for money was spot on, and overall the place was clean; a little dust on the cabinets didn’t bother me because everything essential was spotless. However, the kitchen window in my room wouldn’t close, and I could hear the parking lot next door all night. The front door has a very stiff spring, so it slams loudly into the lock, and the rooms are highly sound‑transmissive.

Despite being far from Solingen’s main station, the hotel feels relatively unique in its category. Apart from the fact that the room rates are quite high, the breakfast couldn’t be booked online and had to be added at the front desk, which wasn’t possible later on. The front‑desk staff were a disaster: a queue had already formed just to pay for a parking ticket, and it took the lady 10 minutes. Then a second staff member appeared, and we were glad, but she had something else to do and we caught her in the same slow mode. While we were being processed, the second employee checked in five other people—unbelievable. Our colleagues already knew who we were talking about. It’s an insult and can’t be explained by “new staff.” Worse still, the entrance door almost killed us from inside because it lifts automatically without warning.

The rooms were pretty, the breakfast was nice and well‑maintained, and parking was good. The only downside was the lack of vegan options at breakfast.
