“Es gibt viel zu tun”
The chef was friendly and the room was large and clean. We know that luxury isn’t expected at this price point, but warmth or at least friendliness from the hosts would make us feel comfortable even in modest accommodations. Unfortunately, the chef’s mother couldn’t muster a smile. The bedroom lacked blinds or curtains for darkness. Wi‑Fi would have cost an extra 3 €—something we haven’t seen in 15 years. Breakfast offered no cereal or fruit, only cold cuts with two tiny rolls (about a third of a normal roll), so there wasn’t enough bread for the cold cuts. When we asked if more rolls were available, the mother replied grumpily, “that costs extra.” A second cup of coffee also cost extra, leaving us both amused and stunned. Chef, just add 5 € to the room rate, include Wi‑Fi, and add a third roll to the breakfast basket. That way you stay affordable, guests won’t feel cheated, and if your mother could give a smile, it would lift everyone’s mood.
