The George is the antidote to corporate, cookie cutter accommodation. The experience of dealing with helpful & genuinely friendly staff who go the extra mile, not for a personal review, but because they genuinely care & want to help, was refreshing. The building itself is 100's of years old with all the challenges that brings with upkeep & maintenance. The reality is that everywhere was clean & the furniture was an eclectic mix of styles. This is to me what provides character. There is plenty of on-site parking that is easy to access. The breakfast was excellent & cooked with love of food rather than with haste. Previously stayed at the nearly Wetherspoons, but their dynamic pricing is very cynical, so never again. The George is a gem & the staff amazing!. Very little to not like. You can tell from my Likes above that it was an entirely positive experience

The staff were friendly and the food in the restaurant was quite good. However, the rooms at the front are on a noisy road so we didn’t get much sleep. The beds were creaky with thin mattresses, and the hairdryer in the bathroom was awful, just like a hose attachment.

Food was lovely Staff helpful and very kind. Place needed a good refurb. Very tired looking. Needs new carpets, beds mirrors etc
