“Très décevant.”
The cypress‑lined avenue is dreamy, the Borgo and its grounds are beautifully tended by a gardener, the pool is large and shallow enough for an adult to walk across, and the sun‑beds and pergolas are free to use. The bed linens smelled lovely (we had to arrange them ourselves), and the electric gate, parking with a shelter, and evening lighting are very handy and safe for kids; there’s also a washing machine in the apartment, and Siena is just 20 minutes away with pharmacies, supermarkets and bars a five‑minute drive away. On the other hand, I can’t figure out the 9.1 rating—the cottage’s cleanliness was unacceptable, with dust everywhere (floors, under the beds, windowsills, stairs), spider webs, wall‑mounted mosquitoes, and ants in the kitchen; it was truly dirty. The baby’s crib reeked of an old cellar and the foam mattress was awful, while the shower water swung between hot and cold due to a water‑heater issue. The beds and mattresses need urgent replacement, and the sofa smelled of the attic. We tried to move because of these problems, but finding a last‑minute place at that time of year was impossible. The interior is the opposite of the exterior, and a family of owners who stay on weekends disturbed the peace with nightly noise until 3 am, children splashing in the pool and shouting up to 2 am.
