Hotel Machos Mahahual

I stayed on the beachfront with my own private pier, and the breakfast was decent, though it sometimes took longer than expected. Unfortunately, there was no hot water because the owner had turned it off after an unpaid bill. We only had one key, so the room had to be left open for cleaning. The TV stopped working intermittently due to internet issues. An unannounced extra fee was charged for “algae cleaning,” yet we saw no algae in the hotel; the algae still lingered and smelled, while staff seemed inactive. The hotel was hard to locate and looked different from the pictures. I also suspect the good reviews are manipulated, as I saw the same text from a bad review reappear under a higher rating (e.g., 8.0) with different names, while a very poor rating was still given.

We really enjoyed the hotel and breakfast. The reception was friendly, the room was clean, and the bed was large and comfortable, which surprised us given previous reviews. The hotel had recently been renovated and changed ownership and name. Unfortunately, there is sargassum on the front beach, but that’s common around Mahahual.

Everything was great.

The room was large and comfortable, and everything was very clean. The only issue was the price discrepancy: the platform lists 27 pesos more than the price on site. It isn’t expensive, but it feels a bit deceptive.
