The location kept us from having to walk down the whole trail to Yungay, which was great for a rest day between climbing the Chopicalqui and the Pisco. The hotel mainly relies on food from the Laguna 69 excursions, so it gets very busy in the afternoon.

I booked the room at Tullpa because I was running a 50k Ultramathon that started and finished at the restaurant next door, and the area is so remote that there are few lodging options. I was excited by the good reviews and the place looked cute, clean, and well‑kept, but I knew some things might be lacking and they ended up being far worse than expected. On the bright side, the bed was comfy, the Wi‑Fi worked, and the owner helped arrange a taxi from Carhuaz to the property. As I mentioned, the room was available for the three nights before the race but not on the race night. I had asked the owner many months in advance—via Google Translate—if I could leave my luggage during the race and pick it up afterward, and he agreed. The day before the race we said I would leave my bags and key in the room, but the room was not available. I had to leave my bags and key at 4:30 am, finish running at 3 pm after covering 30 miles and climbing over 6,000 ft at elevations up to 16,000 ft, and then go to collect my bags to get on the race‑supplied bus back to Carhuaz. The man told me he couldn’t let me in because I left the key in the room. I was exhausted, struggling with Google Translate, and he said I couldn’t get my bags until the next day. I asked if he had an extra key and he said no. He seemed amused by the situation. Finally, I offered to pay him to break the door, and he opened it. The whole thing felt malicious and unacceptable. I paid him 50 soles and got out. It was a horrible trick. There was no toilet seat—really? The hot/cold water was hard to regulate, either too cold or too hot. The power went out several times. He charged me 25 soles for breakfast, which was just cold bread with an egg, even though breakfast was included in my rate. It was dirty. The staff and the owner all seemed irritated that I was there. Probably a hotel and restaurant shouldn’t exist if you don’t want to serve customers. He scammed me 100 soles by charging me for breakfast and holding my bags hostage.

The quirky restaurant was charming and the attached rooms were nice, all in a lovely spot. The shower was lukewarm, and the restaurant was very quiet in the evening.

The place was incredible, the hosts were very welcoming and pleasant, the food was excellent, and it’s a great spot before exploring the White Cordillera.
