The room looked great, with a comfy bed and plenty of cushions, and the location was handy for catching frequent buses into the city. However, it sat on a busy road, so even with double glazing the traffic noise bothered me; I ended up using ear plugs, a protective mask, and inset speakers to play calming music and yoga nidra.

The hotel claimed check‑in was possible until 00:00, yet when we arrived at 22:30 the place was locked and no one could be reached; had we not luckily found a room next door, we would have ended up sleeping on the street, and the online check‑in message arrived only after we checked the messages, making it useless—a real disgrace for a four‑star property.

It’s a very nice place to stay, calm and relaxing. The rooms are tasteful and cozy, with a great view overlooking the cliffs. Breakfast is fresh and arguably the best in Scotland, thanks to Graham.

The Torfin staff went above and beyond to personalize our stay. Over the bank holiday weekend, during the marathon and our anniversary, they were always attentive and supportive. I truly appreciated everything they did to keep us comfortable. I’ll miss the shower forever! Thank you to everyone at Torfin—a gem of a place.
