The place is quiet and charming, with adorable cats, but it’s a bit far out—nice and quiet if that’s what you’re after.

We stayed at a cosy inn close to the quieter side of the West Lake, surrounded by other small inns; the owner and staff were very friendly and helpful, making our visit enjoyable. Our duplex suite was spacious, and we appreciated the tiered seating in the tatami sleeping area, plus a projector for watching iQiyi movies. I didn’t realize the property had no lift, so with a lot of luggage we relied on the staff and owner to help us upstairs. The room lacks a fridge or microwave, so you must go down to the common kitchen; there’s a fan on the upper deck that could improve airflow, but it was very dusty and we avoided using it. Most cars can’t drive into the narrow roads, so you have to walk about 100 m to reach the property.
