“Es war ein schöner Aufenthalt mit Widrigkeiten”

The house itself is really pretty and feels nicely put together, set in a quiet little complex about a ten‑minute walk from the sea with a couple of pools close by. We loved the terrace and the overall vibe. Unfortunately the bathroom fittings were coming loose, the drains on the first floor didn’t work at all, and the kitchen was crawling with bugs, so you can’t even leave food out. On top of that the night‑time sheet was paper‑thin and there were no blankets to speak of.

The place was filthy, the water was constantly cold and there was absolutely no staff to help when we needed anything. Because it sits far from the city centre we had to take a taxi every day just to get to the center, and the whole area was swarmed with insects.

“Ruime voldoende”

The villa is spacious, with both a terrace and a balcony, and it’s a short walk or cheap taxi ride to Santa Maria’s city centre. That said, it was eerily quiet – we expected more buzz – and while the pool was filled, there were no loungers or other guests around.

The apartment was spotless and felt upscale, just a five‑to‑six‑minute walk from the beach, restaurants and bars, and right in the lively Santa‑Maria area. I was pleasantly surprised that many locals spoke French, and the whole vibe was very relaxed – no pushy sellers at all. The only downside was a minor plumbing problem: the shower leaked and the toilet’s push‑button was worn, but a quick fix by a professional would have sorted it in under an hour.

“Je ne le recommande pas”

The accommodation was quiet and conveniently close to a supermarket, which made checking out easy. However, the window was broken and wouldn’t stay shut, there was a leak in the bathroom, no coffee maker was provided, and the cleaning was shockingly poor despite a €49 cleaning fee. To top it off, the bathroom lamp didn’t work at all.
