The surroundings are nice, but the toilet is separate from the room and lacks toiletries. The room wasn’t exclusively for guests; the closets were full of personal belongings. A chicken coop right next to the room had several roosters crowing from the first hour. The photos on Booking don’t match the current state of the house. The room couldn’t be locked; the owner entered our room while we were away, even though there was no daily cleaning service. The room was full of relics and valuable decorative items. Even though pets were allowed, the floor was covered with several handmade rugs that should have had a waterproof layer or none at all. On the first day we tipped the pet water bowl and a bit spilled onto one of the rugs; because there was no protection, the natural dyes mixed and the owner demanded a €450 compensation, claiming that was the rug’s value. We told her we’d file a claim through Booking, but she said she didn’t know how. We spent half a morning with her to file our own complaint, yet she insisted on a transfer. To ease the uncomfortable situation, since she seemed quite distrustful, we made the transfer. She immediately called the bank to see if she had received it, even though we explained that an international transfer wouldn’t arrive right away. I showed her the receipt but she wasn’t satisfied. She made the whole trip bitter, insisting on payment every day, so we decided to leave a day early.

Zoe and Francois were fantastic hosts. They made us feel very welcome even though they’re seniors. She speaks good English and has a zest for life. The room was comfortable and homely. They were self-sufficient with their produce—eggs, fruit, homemade cakes, etc. The only downside was that with a large car maneuvering was sometimes limited, especially along the narrow lanes, which was part of the charm.

Meeting our hostess was a human, kind, welcoming experience. The building is beautiful, authentic, and rustic in a calm natural setting. Thanks for this lovely experience.
