“An immersive and learning experience”
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and when my son and I arrived, we felt instantly welcomed; the site is an outdoor museum full of history, and watching the morning service was enlightening and engaging—my son even enjoyed some vegan dishes and learned about other cultures. Nothing else to complain about.
“Original, but not good value for money.”
Staying on site at a temple was very appealing, and the whole area was exceptionally clean, offering a distraction‑free and peaceful environment. The traditional breakfast was generous and tasty, and the place is about a 5‑minute walk from the train station. The monk was friendly and accommodating, but the stay doesn’t feel worth the money and feels somewhat touristy in the welcome and staff attitude. The extra activities—meditation and calligraphy—are not lessons at all; they’re just opportunities to participate with no instructions or explanations, so you can’t grasp the purpose behind them. They’re also pricey and not good value. No dinner is served, and the nearest restaurants are a couple of kilometres away.
The place was spotlessly clean, and I felt my spirit refreshed; the morning vegetarian meal was delicious, giving me a pleasant start to the day. No complaints.
I stayed at a lodging for the first time and was told at the start, “Please relax without worrying about etiquette”; the quiet setting calmed my mind and made it a lovely place. I also joined the morning service, which was a valuable experience that I’m happy about.
Everything was flawless, and staying at the Japanese temple was a fantastic experience; the staff were genuinely kind and helpful, never busy, and gave us all the attention we needed.
