Holiday Inn Express Manila Newport City by IHG

I liked how close the hotel was to the airport and how quickly I could check in, but my room had a disabled toilet that wasn’t fenced off from the shower.

“Shame to the name!”

I started off expecting a great stay because all the previous reviews were glowing, but this hotel was clearly in decline; the first room I got was foul-smelling, dim, and damp with mold, probably from flooding, making the air feel sickly. I switched rooms, and the staff handled it without hassle, yet it’s still unacceptable to give a guest a room like that. The second room was a bit better but still off‑kilter, not very clean, with mold on the bathroom furniture and scratches everywhere, giving it an old, neglected vibe. I could forgive it if the price matched, but it’s quite high, so you’d expect better. Cheaper hotels exist, and paying a premium here just to avoid a dump and get a decent night’s sleep after a long flight feels like a mistake. The hotel’s reputation doesn’t live up to the name, which was disappointing. Breakfast sometimes makes up for it, but we had an early flight so I can’t judge. The only bright spot was its proximity to the terminal, though there are other hotels nearby, so that’s not a real advantage. Overall, it was a letdown.
