“I felt like a miserable backpacker”
I liked the location because it was right next to Cloud Nine and the kittens were cute, plus the staff were friendly. The rooms, however, were a disaster: we had a double bed in an 8‑person dorm, the bed frame was too basic, the frame above us was bending, unsupported, and noisy, and the bed made a lot of cracking noises from scraping wood plates, even waking me up at night. Sometimes the air‑co wouldn’t work, the lights were tasteless, the rooms were dirty with weird things under the bed, and although the rooms were actually pretty big, there was barely any storage—just one small wooden closet per two people. The bathrooms were terrible: one shower/toilet per 8‑person dorm, the vent was too low and kept me from sleeping, no hot water because of “fluctuating voltage” (I don’t buy that; they should have voltage converters), the showerhead kept falling out, the toilet was constantly sprayed and always wet, the toilet light and seat didn’t work, and the whole floor was the shower drain, always wet and sandy with toilet paper scattered around. I saw staff wandering around when I noticed a lot of things needed cleaning or fixing, and they seemed to ignore it. There was no place to hang clothes—neither outside nor in the room or shower. The shower/toilet area was just outside with bamboo walls, so I could see others if I tried. The common area was basic, only two hammocks for about 8–10 dorms. It’s the worst place I’ve stayed in a month.
