The village pub was lovely and very quiet; the host welcomed us warmly and explained everything about our stay, and the food was very good.

The locality was nice and perfect for our northward travel; breakfast was exceptional and the view into the garden area was nice.

The room was great, very clean with a comfy bed; I enjoyed a wee wine with some locals outside. The only issue was that my room wasn’t en‑suite – I’m not sure if it wasn’t mentioned when I booked or if I just missed it, but as a woman traveling alone for work, having to leave my room at 2 am for the toilet and then go into the shower room to wash my hands was not great; even the noise of opening the room door, the toilet door, and then the shower room door for the sink was annoying. This is literally the only negative.

The pub sits in a quiet setting but is very close to the fabulous beach of ‘Coldingham Bay’, which has a lifeguard for safe swimming, and the delightful small village of ‘St Abbs’. Nothing negative.
