The location was convenient—about a five‑minute walk from Marble Arch, the Tube, and the event venue—and the staff were all friendly. However, the room was unclean: the floor was dirty and damaged, the curtains didn’t reach the bottom of the window, and the area outside the window—almost a balcony—was littered with rubbish (take‑away cartons, etc.). Three lights didn’t work, including one in the bathroom, and there was no chair for the desk. The bathroom sink tap was broken; it turned on but the water came out too forcefully, soaking the user. The shower was decent and hot, but it leaked onto the bathroom floor; this wasn’t a new problem because the floor was spongy and cracked under the Lino in places, making it easy to feel underfoot. The double bed was pushed up against a wall, so you had to climb over someone to reach the bathroom at night. The mattress was extremely old, springs were visible, and it was very uncomfortable to sleep on, plus it was filthy.
