The spot is gorgeous – we hit the walking trails on the property, especially the secret forest that the kids loved, and the beach was just a short stroll away. Alan was a fantastic host and the cottage had everything we needed, super cozy. French Island is a wildlife haven – koalas everywhere! We stayed three nights, two full days, and honestly wish we could’ve stretched it out a bit longer.

The animals and the vibe here are one of a kind. But it can get tough on hot days, especially with kids, and some of the trail signs were misleading. Still, the island’s got great potential for longer bushwalks and bike rides if you’re up for it.

Beautiful rooms, comfy indoor and outdoor spots, and the bathrooms are a treat. The kitchen is fully stocked with foil and clingfilm, plus a bunch of original art, poetry, books, and DVDs. The grounds are ecologically restored, full of koalas, echidnas, potoroos, birds, and bats – you won’t need to leave the property. The beach with mangroves is just a stone’s throw away. Alan was incredibly helpful and made us feel right at home.
