“Komplett unkompliziert aber mit Abstrichen”
We were looking for accommodation in Vienna for four days when we planned to be on the move most of the time. Our focus was a good location, a nice environment, and a fair price. Room 55 is the entire basement of a residential building, split into about ten single units. We had a living space with a big bed, a bathroom with a shower, and a separate toilet. Everything was modern, clean, and fully functional. There was no breakfast, no staff, no reception. A short email gave us a description with the door codes and told us we could use the kitchen area (dishes, dishwasher, Nespresso machine, microwave, etc.) – that was it. The 5th district, Margareten, has many shops, bars, and restaurants. On the first evening we were 200 m away at Restaurant Stöger: great food, friendly service, and well‑tuned wine. About 300 m away is the Pilgramgasse U‑station – in 15 min you’re in the centre. All the units are on the ground floor. At night you should close the curtains because with the light inside you can see everything outside. The windows can’t be opened or tilted. It can also be noisy because the street has through traffic with a bus line. Inside the unit it was quite warm; the underfloor heating couldn’t be turned off or lowered. There is a well‑working air‑conditioner on the wall – but it isn’t quiet either. Those who like oxygen and low temperatures to sleep will have a problem. There is no wardrobe, only various hooks, so you basically live out of the suitcase.
