The Bear of Burton is a unique spot. Our room was lovely, very comfortable, and fully equipped for a short break. Breakfast was hearty, and the staff were friendly when we requested small changes to dishes. Plenty of tea and coffee. The atmosphere was great. Alessia, a staff member, was brilliant—very cheerful and friendly. We stayed four nights; the first two nights everything was in the room, but during the last two nights we had to ask for milk, teabags, water, toilet roll, and fresh towels on the third day, which was disappointing. There were very few staff, and when I collected the items, I was told it was the end of the busy season and the cleaning staff were slack. That was a shame, especially since we paid the same room rate as everyone during the busy season. The evening dinner menu was also underwhelming and pricey, so we chose to eat elsewhere on the third and fourth nights. It’s a lovely place, but these issues were unfortunate.

The staff were very accommodating every morning, always bringing the dog out a sausage with our breakfast. The rooms were lovely, clean, and had comfy beds. No negatives.

The moment I stepped into the car park, The Bear surprised me with a warm welcome at the front desk, and the room they assigned was absolutely fantastic. I dined there and the meal was superb, complemented by attentive service. The room stayed quiet, letting me sleep soundly, and breakfast offered a wide variety of high‑quality cooked options. I can’t find anything to criticize about my stay.
