Facilities and location were great, but a curfew—like in a boarding school—meant we couldn’t arrive late at night, and we weren’t warned beforehand, so one night we nearly got locked out. The staff spoke little English, and they didn’t try hard enough to use a translator when we needed help.

The stay was pleasant overall, but the AC in the rooms didn’t work, bathroom doors lacked locks, and no extra bed was offered for an 11‑year‑old child. The staff tried to justify that the AC was the best and explained why there was no latch on the washroom; overall it was a mediocre experience.

“A great find at a great price.”

The Mermaid Inn Mirissa is tucked away from the main street yet only 10 minute walk to shops, restaurants and the beach. The rooms are spacious with huge beds and spotless clean white bedding which is changed along with the towels every couple of days. The rooms however are cleaned daily. There is a small fridge in every room and a kettle. Small amounts of teabags and coffee are provided. The rooms are air conditioned along with a ceiling fan. The bathrooms are quite large and also very clean. We had piping hot water throughout the day. On the shared balconies each room has a small table with 2 chairs. A clothes drying rack is also available for each room. Downstairs behind reception is a washing machine for guests to use, you just supply your own detergent. This was a boon after travelling for 2 weeks prior to our Mirissa stay. Dayani and Dambulla who own the hotel are friendly and gracious hosts. Upauli who works for them is friendly and despite his limited English and our more limited Sri we managed ok. He works tirelessly from 6am in the morning tending to the lovely gardens and grounds before moving on to cleaning the bedrooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, it's a gem of a hotel for a very good price Would definitely return. Nothing

Excellent place to relax; we always arrive at Sri Lanka and stay in this cozy hotel. All necessities are there: hot water, AC, kitchen, dining area. It’s quiet and peaceful, no noisy venues nearby. Very clean, and the owner is a wonderful, friendly person. I travel a lot, staying in many countries, and I know honest reviews matter where you stay. This review reflects reality exactly. The fridge is big, there’s a washing machine, rooms are cleaned and bedding changed. The kitchen has everything for cooking. I recommend it for both long and short stays. The beach is a 7‑minute walk, at a relaxed pace. Everything was fine.
