I stayed in Antananarivo on a side street away from the main roads, and it was surprisingly quiet compared to the city center. Two restaurants sit right next to the residence, making it very convenient. Security feels solid, which is a big plus in this city. My room had a working safe, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The living area and private balcony were nicely done. Free Wi‑Fi was fast, and there were 8 French‑language terrestrial TV channels. Breakfast options varied, and mine was absolutely superb—like a taste of France from thousands of miles away. The airport shuttle taxi was punctual and driven with a caution uncommon among Madagascan drivers. Paying in either local Ariary or Euros at the hotel was very helpful. Everyone I met, from the taxi driver to the owner and her staff, was extremely helpful and courteous. The accommodation was comfortable but not exceptional; the room was a bit dark and some woodwork and kitchen cabinets clearly needed updating. Minor issues in the main area nudged my rating down from exceptional to very good. Paying in cash, as stated, means carrying more money than some might like, but the owners happily accept both local Ariary and Euros.
