“Nice introduction to Zanzibar”
The place has a pleasant vibe, a nice sea view, and clean décor, plus lovely pools and excellent showers. Entertainment was great, with singers, a Masai dance one night, and acrobatics the next. The staff were friendly, and when our flights changed at the last minute, the front desk helped us extend our stay and rearranged airport transfers. On the downside, we asked for a twin but received a room with a sofa bed whose mattress was as hard as a rock, making it very uncomfortable and discouraging us from going to the beach because of local lads. Even though a security guard was present, it was still unpleasant to be harassed while trying to swim. The restaurant situation was confusing: we were told there were three à la carte restaurants that needed to be booked at least 12 hours in advance. We chose the Italian one, but when we asked for directions, the staff were vague. We were taken by golf buggy to a neighboring property, which turned out to be two of the three “restaurants” in one space; we were the only guests, with no view, dining behind a shed. The staff seemed uninterested and talked loudly behind the bar. We left, and the hotel needs to rethink how it markets and sells these extra dining options.
