“Pleasant friendly staff but the room was overpriced and not good value.”

The staff were friendly and mostly helpful, the cocktails were good, and the evening meal was fine. The shower in the twin room we booked didn’t work; we didn’t complain until the second day because we didn’t want to wait for maintenance or move rooms. When I tried to call reception, the room phone was dead, so I called the hotel line from my mobile and nobody answered downstairs. My friend had to walk down to find a staff member in person. We were offered an upstairs room via a fire escape and the staff moved our luggage, which we didn’t want. We had to push for a better room next door, which turned out more comfortable. Breakfast on the last morning took half an hour and the food was simple. Billing had multiple errors and took a long time to resolve at checkout. The manager offered complimentary drinks and tried to compromise on the bill; he was considerate and polite. For what I paid (through a certain channel), the initial twin room was very poor value; I felt like I was paying 4‑star rates for a small, poorly provisioned space.
