“Did not stay due to the Absolutely Unacceptable Conditions”

The conditions were absolutely unacceptable – nothing matched the advertised photos. I booked based on those pictures and the reality was a nightmare: the bed linen was dirty, the pillowcases were so worn they were almost transparent, the bathroom was filthy, and the floors were grimy. The door locks were broken, raising serious security concerns, and garbage bags were left in the corridors, adding to the unhygienic feel. I left immediately, never staying a night, and chose to depart quietly to avoid confrontation. I later requested a refund but received no reply. It’s disappointing that guests rely on advertised photos only to find such a stark difference. Cleanliness, basic hygiene, security, and honest advertising should be minimum standards for any place accepting paying guests. I cannot recommend Hotel Portao Diaz, and a full refund is justified because the accommodation was not in a condition that would allow me to stay.

The place was a false advert – it looked nothing like the pictures, but the staff were friendly and the room wasn’t too bad. It was extremely hot. I had room 205 with no air‑con, no fan, no microwave, and they don’t cater, so you can’t even warm food; no microwave, no fridge – it feels more like a spot to get a bang and move on.

“Absolutely lovely”

Breakfast was great, kids loved swimming and lounging by the pool, and the family facilities were solid. The only gripe was that check‑out could be a bit later; I’d prefer a lie in.

“My stay in Mossel Bay was good, the weather was a bit problematic though”

The location is handy for other amenities and the price isn’t bad. The basin didn’t flush water away, and the shower had poor drainage.
