Located along the Amstel River, the 5-star Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel is Amsterdam's oldest hotel, dating back to the 17th century. The room was large. The hotel smelled of horrible sewer gas in the lobby and all the way up to the 4th floor; staff acknowledged this but said there was nothing they could do about it. It was revolting. There was not a single piece of artwork in the lobby or room. This is definitely not a 5‑star hotel.

Service quality, breakfast, location were great. On the floor I stayed there was an unknown source of odor. I told the staff, they said they didn’t know the cause. It needs attention. The lobby was extremely small.

The staff was very nice and professional. Other than that, that’s about the only positive thing I can say due to the excessive noise. The noise: just below our room was a public bench where drunk locals would drink, yell, and smoke all night—literally until 4 AM every night. And when I say yelling, imagine someone screaming at the top of their lungs across the river to their friends. This went on for 20 hours of the day. I told the staff and they said since it’s public there’s nothing they could do. This level of constant disruption should have been made fully aware. I asked fellow guests if they experienced the same and everyone advised they had. I’ve added photos to show how close this was. Our room was 10 feet from party town.

The staff was excellent, the service received was first‑class. Emanuelle and all the guys at the restaurant/bar were charming and very helpful.
