“Ein toller Aufenthalt, endlich mal an einem Fluß und vielen Bäumen”
The Mobola Island Lodge sits in a great spot on the Caprivistreifen, and we only wanted to head to Divundu, but many use the lodge as a stopover on the way to Victoria Falls. The bungalow is huge. To our surprise, we had not only the often mentioned ceiling fan but also cooling by water evaporation. That combination let us sleep well despite the high temperatures. We dropped off our laundry for washing. It’s charged per machine load, not per item. One load costs NAD 150.00. We left the laundry at breakfast and got it back the next day after breakfast. That was great. We took the Sundowner boat trip, but only caught sight of one crocodile. We did see the eyes of two hippos. The animal sightings were limited. Breakfast on our own terrace was awesome. Of course, you can’t get as many options as at a buffet, so there were, for example, two boiled eggs and nothing else egg‑based. But we really enjoyed eating on the terrace. Dinner on the island tasted great on both evenings. Even though we didn’t cook ourselves, having a big fridge to keep drinks and other travel provisions cool was helpful. Unfortunately, there were some spiders in our bungalow. We tried to catch them in a glass and release them outside, but on the second night we gave up because they were faster than us. Luckily there’s a mosquito net, so you feel protected while sleeping. If you’re averse to spiders, even if they’re harmless, that’s a downside. Even though we know we’re in Africa, in the other 14 places we stayed on our trip we didn’t see this many spiders. Our daughters, who weren’t with us, both have a spider phobia, so they probably wouldn’t have tolerated it.
