“Scam & broken AC - avoid!”
Several problems: 1. The front desk tried to scam me by adding a 17 % fee that wasn’t listed on the booking confirmation—something I never saw in other Chinese hotels. 2. They demanded a deposit equal to 100 % of the room fee, which is ridiculous; my booking said no deposit was required, and only after showing that did they back off. 3. The AC in the room doesn’t work; a staff member claimed the room was too big to cool, which is absurd for a 5‑star hotel in a city where temperatures regularly exceed 30 °C. 4. They gave us a 20‑year‑old portable fan that did nothing to lower the temperature. 5. The gym’s AC barely worked, so I was essentially working out in a sauna while paying for a 5‑star hotel. 6. They seem to cut costs on elevators too—there are many, but only one moves at a time, so I had to ride a stuffy elevator through seven floors before reaching my floor, and the elevator’s AC was also poor. 7. This ridiculous experience will lead me to dispute the charge with my credit‑card provider because they failed to provide basic necessities expected of a 5‑star hotel. I recently stayed at a Hilton in Helsinki; that old building had its better days behind it, but the AC was strong enough that I had to turn it down to sleep at night—remember, that city barely exceeds 20 °C and energy costs are much higher than in China. Completely unacceptable.
