The nights were quiet and breakfast was good, but I missed the entrance because the sign was invisible (see picture). I had stayed here two years ago and liked it, which is why I came back. This time the experience was awful: the drapes and curtains in the room smelled like someone had smoked, possibly due to an AC unit that needs cleaning; I had to leave the window open overnight. The door doesn’t close fully, letting me see into the hallway, the bathroom light flickered, the toilet ran slowly then clogged and the water tank stopped flushing. The shower head looked grimy, the sink faucet moved freely and needs repair. Carpets in the room, hallways, and elevator are dirty and stained, requiring cleaning or replacement. The overall cleaning standards are poor, suggesting management neglects upkeep. It’s not a three‑star hotel and not worth $150/night.
The rooms were tidy and clean, and the staff were very friendly.
When we arrived, the front desk explained they had to reassign our room because it wasn’t a pet room, so we had to wait for a new one. The room we finally got had two green beds instead of the king size we had booked, and we barely fit on them—my husband, who is 6'1", had his feet hanging off the edge.
“It is an acceptable stay but overall not a welcoming odor and feel to the rooms when you enter.”
The location in Luverne is ideal for reaching all nearby areas, right off I‑90 and a short drive to Sioux Falls. However, the hotel struggles with humidity: first‑floor rooms were damp, the dehumidifier wasn’t emptied, the AC was off, and there was a stagnant, bad odor. We moved to a second‑floor room, which was still stale but not damp; the AC in that room also performed poorly. Additionally, the bathroom floor was cracked.
The rooms were spotless.
