“Lovely hotel, friendly staff with great views of the river & Porto”

The room was excellent with a great view of the river and Porto—ask for a front‑hotel room. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was nice. Service at the roof bar was a bit slow, and the spa/pool area is too small for the number of guests (you have to book to use). The food in the restaurant could be better; we tried it once.

“Très bon emplacement pour être à proximité immédiate de l’embarquement en croisière.”

The hotel sits opposite Porto, offering a magnificent view from the restaurant, and the parking has many electric charging points. We were upgraded to an “appartement” under the roofs, which offered no view of the outside—roof windows on one side and a large wall on the other made it hard to see the weather. Additionally, there are two different elevators and endless corridors to reach it, making access not simple.

I always choose my hotels carefully, and for this stay in Porto, the view and atmosphere mattered most. This trip was part of a special milestone birthday journey from Australia, and as an artist, I needed to be surrounded by the beauty of the river, the old city, and evening light. When I described my wishes in the booking request, I couldn’t imagine how closely reality would match my vision. Upon arrival, The Rebello had clearly considered my request. We received a wonderful room with a balcony and a breathtaking view across the Douro toward Porto’s historic centre—exactly the view I had dreamed of. I was especially touched by thoughtful gestures: a lovely birthday cake with a candle and personal message, plus little surprises throughout our stay. The staff were incredibly attentive, responsive, and charming, genuinely making every effort to help us and make our stay enjoyable. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with a very comfortable bed and everything we needed. Breakfast offered a good variety, with a buffet, dishes made to order, and a wide selection of drinks. We deliberately chose this hotel for its view and atmosphere, and it fully lived up to our expectations. If I return to Porto, I would choose The Rebello again without hesitation. Thank you to the entire team for taking such good care of us and for giving this artist exactly the view of Porto she had dreamed of.

The location in Gaia is great, away from Porto’s hustle and bustle. Walking along the river and across the bridge to Porto is easy, pleasant by day and night. Service was also great, with a good spa on the property.

The location and view were good, and the breakfast had a variety of fruit. However, the staff service at breakfast was poor; one employee answered questions about coffee and food with a blunt, unfriendly tone, and I wondered if it was because I was an Asian guest after seeing him treat other Europeans kindly. Another staff member accepted my coffee order but didn’t bring it until the end of the meal, and only after I reminded him did he give it to me, without saying sorry. Overall, I cannot understand why this hotel is rated five stars; the money feels wasted.
