“Dissapointing, rundown in need of tlc”
The site is ideal for exploring local woods, caves and castles, and the extra hot tub was nice, especially the goats. I’m not new to camping and love rustic, rural getaways, but this place needs serious TLC. The horsebox was dirty and dusty, full of old cobwebs even in the oven. The front door didn’t work, so we couldn’t lock it at night, which felt unsafe even though it’s a safe area; we had to tie underwear around two handles to make a makeshift lock. The kitchen window had no curtain, which I think is needed for privacy and to block early‑morning sunlight. The wood throughout the box had damp problems; everything was cold and wet, and parts of the floor felt unsafe because water seeped in. We woke up to earwigs in the bed. We didn’t mind the outside compost toilet, but the lights didn’t work and we couldn’t see anything trying to use it at night. We brought BBQ food to use the BBQ facilities, but they were dirty, unkempt, and unusable, so we tried the gas oven, which wouldn’t turn on and was full of webs. The sink was chipped and heavily stained. There were two Wi‑Fi options, but neither appeared on our phones. We expected more privacy, yet there was a caravan right next door. The log‑burning hot tub was a nice feature but needed lighting. The treetop walk, games room, golf area, and everything else need love; it has great potential but is just run down. I was really disappointed with our trip. We drove four hours for this break to celebrate my recent health victory and to feel well enough to explore nature again. We paid for two nights but couldn’t stay the second, so we packed up and left 😞
